Another important historical site in St. Gallen is the St. Gall Abbey. The monks were expelled during the Reformation, and Paracelsus had access to the facilities, where he conducted some experiments in his legendary "alchemical kitchen" ("Alchemisches Küche"). No doubt some of the experiments he carried out influenced his thinking on the three principles (salt, sulfur, and mercury). The monks returned to the Abbey in 1532, the time at which Paracelsus departed.
